Emlenton, PA Vintage Map Mug: The Town in the Bend

More than a century ago, a mapmaker set himself above Emlenton and drew what he saw. A town tucked into a lazy bend of the Allegheny, hills coming right down to the water, every street and rooftop in its place. This mug wraps that entire hand-drawn bird's-eye map around solid ceramic.

This isn't a modern design made to look old, and it isn't a rough scan either. I take the original map and restore it by hand. Upscaled, cleaned, the damage and haze of a century lifted out, so the detail prints sharp the way the mapmaker drew it.

Emlenton is Venango County oil country, and one of the prettiest river towns on the whole Allegheny. The map shows why. The river makes its bend and the town simply fits itself in.
